Ian Lucas Ludgero
Ian Lucas Ludgero was born into a family deeply rooted in martial arts. His father, Ataíde Ludgero Júnior, is a 6th-degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and his mother, Lidia dos Santos, is a karate brown belt. From an early age, martial arts were part of Ian’s family life, shaping not only his physical development but also his values, discipline, and character.
Ian began training at just four years old, starting with Judo under Pan-American Champion José Mario Tranquillini, while also developing his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under his father’s guidance. Throughout his childhood, he practiced a wide range of sports—including gymnastics, swimming, cycling, skateboarding, football, handball, and basketball—building coordination, athleticism, and body awareness. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, however, became the foundation of his personal and professional growth.
In 2009, Ian earned a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from UniCeub, gaining strong expertise in anatomy, biomechanics, physiology, pedagogy, ethics, and injury prevention. This academic background continues to shape his teaching methodology, allowing him to deliver structured, safe, and effective training for students of all levels.
Ian began coaching Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in 2010 and has now accumulated over 14 years of experience teaching as a black belt. Early in his career at VIP Training Gym, he expanded his role to include personal training and fight team coordination. His coaching approach evolved to serve diverse groups, including adults, youth, women, seniors, and self-defense students, emphasizing technical efficiency, control, discipline, and accessibility.
Awarded his black belt at the age of 21, Ian represents the fourth generation of a respected Brazilian Jiu Jitsu lineage:
Hélio Gracie → Armando Wriedt → Ataíde Ludgero Júnior → Ian Ludgero.
He received his first-degree black belt in 2014 from Grandmaster Armando Wriedt and his father and was promoted to 4th-degree black belt through years of continued dedication, coaching, and competition.
In addition to his coaching career, Ian has contributed academically by authoring a scientific paper on the role of martial arts in physical education, highlighting benefits such as physical and psychological development, reduced aggression, and improved self-awareness.
In 2015, Ian relocated to Perth, Australia, where he quickly integrated into the local martial arts community. Since then, he has remained highly active as a coach and competitor, engaging in competitions, community programs, and school outreach initiatives that promote Brazilian culture and the core values of martial arts.
As a competitor, Ian has achieved outstanding results, including 1st place in the Australian national rankings in 2017 and, most recently, winning the 2025 Australian Judo National Championship, demonstrating high-level performance across both BJJ and Judo.
Today, Ian Lucas Ludgero is a 4th-degree black belt, experienced coach, and lifelong martial artist dedicated to developing the next generation through Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Judo—promoting technical excellence, safety, discipline, and personal growth on and off the mats.
